The 2021 NFL draft is just over a month away and all talk is surrounding a very strong quarterback class headlined by Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance and Justin Fields.
As the players continue their preparation with pro days, many are meeting the media to discuss their college careers and whats ahead for them. The latest to do so is the North Dakota State standout Lance, who participated in the Bison’s pro day on Friday and met the media shortly after. While meeting the media, Lance was asked about which quarterbacks he grew up watching and offered an answer that should please Florida fans.
Lance revealed that he grew up a Florida fan and a huge fan of quarterback Tim Tebow.
“I was a Florida Gators fan growing up actually, so Tim Tebow was my guy growing up in middle school and high school,” Lance said on Friday. I was a Florida fan, so at that time that was all that mattered. It could have been anyone at that point. But obviously his physicality he brings to the game, his passion for the game where two things that I thought were two of his strengths and super exciting.”
Growing up a Gators fan in Minnesota, Lance didn’t receive an offer from the Gators as a small-school prospect. Heck, he had teams that were recruiting him to play other positions besides quarterback.
But in the end, it worked out for him and the Bison.
While Lance isn’t built like Tebow, he does have a similar game in terms of being a dual-threat quarterback that can beat you throw the air but also use his legs to pick up yards.
The quarterback should hear his name called early in April’s draft as he’s mocked as high as the top 5 by multiple outlets. He’s a quarterback that started one full season for the Bison in 2019 but it was a big one, throwing for 28 touchdowns and rushing for 14 more while not throwing an interception. He did play in a “showcase” game this Fall, one last chance to showcase his talent.
