Florida Gators offensive guard [autotag]O’Cyrus Torrence[/autotag] has been named a midseason All-American presented by Regions Bank. The All-Americans were selected by AP Top 25 voters and released by the AP on Tuesday.
Torrence is the only Florida Gators player on the list, but not the only player from the SEC. Joining the 6-foot-5-inch, 347-pound junior is Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker and wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, and Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who is listed as an all-purpose player. Torrence was also named to the midseason Lombardi Watchlist, awarded annually to an offensive or defensive lineman who best exemplifies the character of former NFL Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi.
Torrence has been the catalyst for Florida’s revived running attack this season. His presence on the offensive line and familiarity with head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag]’s system from their time together at Louisiana has translated to the rest of the offensive line unit. The addition of former Louisiana RB Montrell Johnson also helps.
Torrence missed last week’s 45-35 loss to LSU, and it showed in the run game. If you take out [autotag]Anthony Richardson[/autotag]’s 81-yard touchdown scramble, the Gators collectively rushed for 129 yards between four different rushers. He is expected to return for the Gators’ next game against Georgia.
The bye week should help Torrence find time to recover for the next matchup against Georgia, which will be played at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida, on Oct. 29. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. EDT and the game will be broadcast on CBS Sports.
