This ESPN analyst and former Colt took issue with Cam Newton’s assessment of the Patriots

Jeff Saturday had some complaining to do about Cam Newton.

How quickly a week can change the feeling surrounding a team.

Just seven days ago, the Patriots were coming off of a hard-fought win against the lowly Jets. And, even though it counted as a victory in the record books, the thrill wasn’t exactly there.

Now, New England is feeling uplifted after a 23-17 upset win over the Baltimore Ravens, which was clearly their best game of the season to this point.

While Cam Newton believes that his team’s 4-5 record isn’t indicative of how talented his team is, one former All-Pro center, now ESPN analyst isn’t buying into that sentiment.

Former Colt Jeff Saturday took an opportunity to speak on Newton’s comments during an appearance on ESPN’s “First Take” this week.

“…I don’t love Cam talking about, ‘We’re better than our record,’ or however he says that kind of thing,” Saturday said. “The truth is, you are what you are, right? Like, it is what it is. Your record is what you’ve played to. But they do have the capability because of coaching to play better than we all anticipated and I think they have.”

This doesn’t seem like a quote anybody should be upset with. Newton is just instilling confidence in himself, his teammates, and his coaches. It’s obviously true that they are what their record says, but the Patriots may feel that they have the ability to play better than they have so far this season.

The team can’t change their record, but they can continue to improve week to week and that starts this Sunday with a match-up against the 2-7 Houston Texans.
