Things are getting super awkward for the Bears and their QBs

Bears fans want Justin Fields and they want him NOW.

The Chicago Bears got blown out at home on Saturday, 41-15, by their old friend Mitch Trubisky and his new team, the Buffalo Bills.

The score is pretty much irrelevant because it’s just a preseason game and wins and losses don’t matter much, though you would like to see your team play a little better than the Bears did at Soldier Field.

The biggest concern for the Bears after the game, however, continues to be their QB situation, where veteran Andy Dalton is currently the No. 1 guy while their first-round pick, Justin Fields, continues to get time in as the backup.

Fields is likely going to be the franchise QB for many years to come. Well, that’s what the team and its fans certainly hope. And the former Ohio State star seems to have everything it should take to fill that role.

But things are starting to get a bit awkward for the team as the fans were heard booing Dalton on Saturday while also shouting out chants of “We want Fields!”

Dalton handled it well – he completed 11 of his 17 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown. But we all know this isn’t going to be his team and it’s just a matter of time before he gives up the starting gig to the rookie.

Fields eventually took over and went 9 of 19 with no TDs, but it’s what he said after the game about Dalton that stood out the most and showed what type of leader he is going to for the team.

“I noticed it, of course,” Fields said the chants and boos. “The fans are awesome, but they also have to realize Andy is a human being too. Andy is out there on the field right now, so I really think it’s kind of disrespectful to Andy, them cheering my name like that. They have to trust in coach to make sure he’s making the right decisions and cheer Andy on. That’s not helping Andy play better, them cheering my name. That’s not doing that. So I would say my advice to them would be just cheer for who’s out there playing on the field.”

That’s a pretty great message from the 22-year-old QB.

Things in Chicago are likely going to continue being a bit awkward until Fields is finally announced the starter by head coach Matt Nagy. Fans can’t wait to see Fields take over the team, as this franchise has been waiting for what seems like forever to have an elite QB.

For the time being, however, it looks like they are going to have to wait a bit and listen to Fields and give Dalton the support he needs.

But yeah, this is going to be Fields’ team at some point and that could come very soon.

Once that happens, things will become a lot less awkward for everyone involved.
