Los Angeles Lakers guard Russell Westbrook has been persona non grata in Southern California, as he struggled to fit in last season in his first year with the team.
About two weeks ago, head coach Darvin Ham moved him to the bench, and the results, at least so far, have been startling.
Westbrook is averaging 18.6 points on 49.5 overall shooting and 42.9% from 3-point range, 5.1 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game as a reserve. Fans have noticed, as he has even gotten a smattering of MVP chants during home games.
Rival executives have also noticed, and reportedly, the Lakers have been getting calls and trade offers regarding him, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes.

“With Russell Westbrook thriving in his new role as a sixth man, the Lakers are now receiving calls about his availability, sources say, but talks are not at a serious stage.”
Even if Westbrook keeps playing well, the Lakers could very well still end up trading him, as his $47 million expiring contract could hold some considerable value in terms of helping another team trim salary and get under the salary cap next summer.
