There’s no way for the Texans to win a trade that involves Deshaun Watson

Don’t even think about it, Houston.

The NFL offseason is still a month away, but the Texans got a head start on replicating last year’s disastrous results. Team owner Cal McNair has reportedly alienated his star quarterback Deshaun Watson by apparently ignoring his suggestions for coaching candidates and hiring new GM Nick Caserio without consulting him — which the team reportedly promised him.

And now we’re getting reports that there’s a belief around the NFL that Watson could demand a trade. At this point, Watson is really the only asset the Texans can claim. J.J. Watt is likely on his way out for salary cap purposes, DeAndre Hopkins is in Arizona and the team doesn’t have a first-round pick this year. The cupboard isn’t bare, but it’s close.

That lack of draft capital has convinced some that a trade of Watson is actually possible. The Texans need draft picks in the worst way, and any trade that involves a quarterback is sure to include a ton of picks.
