Eventually, Denver Broncos quarterbacks coach Davis Webb seems likely to become a head coach candidate in the NFL. It remains to be seen if that will happen in 2025.
Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reported late Tuesday evening that the New Orleans Saints requested an interview with Webb for their head coach opening. About eight hours later, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reported that New Orleans has not requested an interview with Webb.
It’s curious that this exact scenario has happened twice now.
Earlier this week, NFL Network’s Jane Slater reported that New Orleans planned to interview Broncos senior personnel executive David Shaw for their head coach opening. Less than two hours later, Underhill reported the Saints “do not have plans” to interview Shaw.
Slater and Schultz are reputable reporters, so it seems that either their sources are getting inaccurate information, or New Orleans is having Underhill shoot down stories they don’t want in the public.
Underhill’s latest counter-report on Webb has been endorsed by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ProFootballTalk.com’s Mike Florio, so it seems safe to say Webb won’t interview for the Saints’ head coach opening.
Webb could draw interest from other teams, though, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him pop up as an offensive coordinator candidate when new head coaches start making hires in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
