The uncommitted 2024 recruit USC football really needs to land

As of 10 a.m on June 19, Taylor Tatum is still uncommitted, but @TrojanConquests is looking at the defensive side of the ball for #USC’s foremost needs.

The USC Trojans can use help wherever they find it.

Getting a four- or five-star recruit at any position would be of considerable benefit to Lincoln Riley and the program. No one is going to complain if USC gets Prospect A over here instead of Prospect B over there, given the recruiting rankings and overall upside are relatively similar.

However, let’s be honest: Some prospects and position needs matter more than others. If USC could get one high-end recruit for the 2024 class who — as of 10 a.m on June 19, 2023 — has not yet made a commitment, who would it be?

USC football analyst Tim Prangley, who co-hosts the “Trojan Conquest Live” YouTube show with Rick Anaya at “The Voice of College Football,” weighed in:

“USC needs to sign uncommitted recruits for the front seven, particularly elite defensive tackles and linebackers,” Prangley told us. “The Trojans are currently pursuing highly sought defensive linemen Aydin Breland (6-5, 290 pounds) from Mater Dei High School in California and Eddrick Houston (6-3, 255 pounds) from Buford High School in Georgia.

“If they are unable to secure the commitments of either player, signing St. John Bosco linebackers Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa and Jordan Lockhart would be a great addition to the linebacker class, which already includes 2024 commit Elijah Newby. They would join last year’s elite linebacker signee from Many, Louisiana, Tackett Curtis and redshirt freshman Garrison Madden to create a young and exceptional linebacker room for the run-heavy Big Ten.”
