The Texans’ new GM and coach can try to convince Deshaun Watson to stay, but it’s too late

The new coach and GM said they were looking forward to working with Watson.

You’ve got to give the Houston Texans’ new brass some credit.

Both new general manager Nick Caserio and head coach David Culley addressed reporters on Friday afternoon, and of course they had to talk about what was on everyone’s minds: quarterback Deshaun Watson reportedly making his request for trade official.

Caserio said it right out of the gate that he wanted to “reiterate our commitment to Deshaun Watson … and we have zero interest in trading the player.”

Uh, OK! I guess that’s what he HAS to say, right? It’s keeping up appearances that everything’s fine with the organization that has, as former Texan DeAndre Hopkins may have noted on Twitter Thursday, a lot of dominoes that have fallen.

Here’s what Culley had to say next:

Again … are they hoping that Watson will stay? It’s far too late for that.

It was nice to say that they wanted to keep him, and I could be wrong, maybe this is what convinces Watson to stay (doubtful!). But the wheels very much feel like they’re in motion on a Watson trade.
