On Sunday night you saw a perfect illustration of how an elite team cannot function without a strong offensive and defensive line. The Kansas City Chiefs were forced to go into their matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a beat-up offensive line which essentially neutralized the most potent group of skill players in the league.
It really offers some perspective when you consider the Pittsburgh Steelers dealt an entire season with a mediocre line of scrimmage and their skill players weren’t on par with the Chiefs.
Moving to the other side, you saw a Bucs defensive front that was masterful in containing the run and pressuring Patrick Mahomes play after play. Kansas City had no answer for what Tampa Bay was doing or they just didn’t try. This sounds familiar, Steelers fans?
What we all saw on Sunday night illuminates why Pittsburgh rebuilding their offensive and defensive fronts must be the top priority this offseason. Without them it doesn’t matter who is playing quarterback or running back, it doesn’t matter that how much money is being paid to the cornerbacks. If you ever wanted a wake-up call for what really wins championships, this game was it.
