There we go: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the New York Jets have been selected to host this year’s edition of “Hard Knocks,” the popular documentary series putting a focus on teams in training camp as they prepare for their preseason games and compete for spots on the depth chart during roster cuts. Previous reports said the Jets expected this assignment, but this is the closest thing yet to an official announcement.

A joint venture between NFL Films and HBO, the annual documentary has been derided by coaches and some players as a distraction they don’t need at their busiest time of the year. The New Orleans Saints were one of four teams who could have been forced to host this season, along with the Jets, the Chicago Bears, and the Washington Commanders.

Ultimately the Jets’ Aaron Rodgers experiment was too enticing to pass up. We’ll see whether micro-doses of Rodgers and his teammates each week is as enlightening an experience as advertised. If one thing’s certain, it’s that Saints coach Dennis Allen is grateful he won’t have to go in front of the cameras.
