The XFL 1.0 was a spectacle that lasted all of one season.
XFL 2.0 was a lot of fun with cool trick plays, PJ Walker’s breakout, hard seltzer celebrations and incredible in-game interviews. But it didn’t even last for a full season that was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thanks to Dwayne Johnson (yes, The Rock) and a group of new owners, we’re now about to get XFL 3.0
The movie star and former WWE star dropped a sizzle reel on Twitter Thursday morning that he narrated, along with the announcement that the XFL would be back in the Spring of 2022. It’s pretty awesome:
XFL returns SPRING 2022 🏈
As owners, we’re proud to champion our XFL players, coaches, cities and fans into an electrifying 2022 season!
It’s an uphill battle – but we’re hungry, humble and no one will outwork us.

If @TheRock can make the XFL work (and i believe he can) then he should definitely be president of the usa.

I, for one, am THRILLED. The XFL was a fun post-NFL season version of football that felt looser and quirkier, but not so much so that it took away from the product on the field. I hope Johnson and the new owners don’t tweak too much.
