The Acclaimed had to win back the right to do their “scissor me” gesture this past Friday on Rampage, but it’s been spreading far and wide even while Smart Mark Sterling had temporarily prevented them from doing it on AEW TV — as in all the way to the MLB Playoffs.
The Philadelphia Phillies bashed their way to the World Series by finishing off the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon. And along the way, first baseman Rhys Hoskins and outfielder Brandon Marsh celebrated one of their big hits with a little scissoring in the dugout.

That tweet caught the eye of Anthony Bowens, who took the opportunity to remind us all once again that yes, everyone loves The Acclaimed.

There’s no question that the way scissoring has caught on has helped The Acclaimed become one of AEW’s most popular tag teams. Along with Max Caster‘s pre-match raps, it’s given the duo another easily recognizable calling card, one that fans eagerly anticipate any time they’re on TV.
It’s also not the first AEW hand gesture to make its way into pro sports. San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, for instance, has been doing Penta El Zero M’s “Cero Miedo” gesture to celebrate big plays for some time.
With the new NBA season starting up recently as well, the NFL and NHL in full swing and the World Series just ahead, it will be interesting to see if scissoring pops up anywhere else in sports in the weeks ahead. It’s certainly a fun way for pro wrestling to infiltrate daily life, even if it might take a bit of explanation to non-fans.
