The Alabama A&M Bulldogs are excited to face the Auburn Tigers this Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Bulldogs head coach Connell Maynor says his players feel they can play with the likes of Auburn and other SEC programs. On Saturday, they will get to prove it.
“It’s going to be great, it’s unbelievable. It’s a great opportunity. All these guys want to play SEC football or Power Five football. And they say they can play. They feel they can play. Okay, now you got job opportunity,” Maynor said this week. “So it’s a great opportunity for these guys to really see where they fit in and how they fit and they can play at that level or not.”
The main offensive weapon to watch for on Saturday is Alabama A&M quarterback Cornelius Brown IV, who was named the starter ahead of the season-opener. Brown and Xavier Lankford are the two most experienced signal-callers on the Bulldogs roster, and Maynor has not ruled out the possibility of playing both guys.
“(Brown) will run out there first and we always say we’re going to play the best man when the best man is the best man,” Maynor said. “It was game one, game two, game six, game ten. And once you become the best man you can play so it isn’t over any position. We just have starters for this game. They could be beat out in eight games. They don’t play with other people. Keep improving.”
The Bulldogs and their strong passing game waltz into Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday for their season-opener with Auburn. The Tigers and Bulldogs will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. CT.
