The New York Knicks continue to make it so easy to laugh at them

Let’s all point and laugh at the Knicks… again!

This is the online version of our morning newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning.

The New York Knicks used to be one of the most storied franchises in all of sports.

Now they’re just the most laughed at.

Because man, it’s so easy to point and giggle at this franchise, which keeps going out of its way to provide hilariously embarrassing content.

The latest moment came on Tuesday when they had a new employee, Steve Stoute, go on ESPN’s First Take to talk about the Knicks.

How’d it go? Not well. Not well at all.

Stoute was recently brought in by the Knicks to help with branding and marketing, so yeah, what a natural guest for First Take, right? I mean, because that show always has marketing people on their show, right? There’s no way First Take knew Stoute might go on TV and create a stir, right?

Well, that’s exactly what Stoute did as he mentioned how the Knicks might move on from their coach and bring on a new coaching staff as well. He was basically rambling about things like a nervous person on a first date who wants to sound more important than they are with no fear of that coming back to hurt you.

But it did come back to hurt Stoute as the Knicks had to issue a press release later in the day that read:

“While Steve Stoute is a valued contributor to the Knicks’ marketing and branding efforts, he does not speak on behalf of New York Knicks personnel and basketball operations. Any decisions regarding the operations of the team will be made by the new President of the New York Knicks.”

Stoute’s statement was included in the release:

“In my excitement to defend the Knicks on live TV today, I inadvertently insinuated about Knicks personnel,” Stoute said in a statement. “I look forward to working with Knicks management to elevate the great Knicks brand moving forward.”

Not a great look for Stoute and the Knicks, who once again got laughed at by just about everyone on Twitter.

The Knicks are a mess. This franchise’s only claim to fame right now is playing in an arena that once had an aura of history about it but has since been turned into a generic place which nobody wants to call their basketball home. Have you been inside MSG since the renovations? It’s 100 percent soulless.

Speaking of soulless, they team has one of the worst owners in all of sports. James Dolan continues to run this franchise into the ground, even as fans continue to chant/beg “SELL THE TEAM!” at home games.

Who knows if that will happen any time soon. I’m guessing it won’t.

But I am guessing the team will do something else to embarrass themselves in the near future.

It’s just who they are and what they do.

Tuesday’s biggest winner: Teddy Bridgewater.

The free-agent QB shared an inspirational letter he wrote for kids out there who might be going through some struggles on a daily basis. It was deep, it was emotional, and it was hugely personal. Bridgewater filled in for an injured Drew Brees last season and went 6-0 for the Saints. Some franchise should be looking to give their keys to this guy.
