The USC Trojans have assembled a new defensive coaching staff for their 2024 football team. On our recent call-in show at The Voice of College Football, we fielded a question from a viewer which made us think: Which two members of the coaching staff other than the two coordinators are absolutely indispensable? Which two non-coordinators would we insist on keeping if we had to choose?
Tim Prangley and I both agreed that Eric Henderson — “Coach Henny” — is one of the two essential coaches. The fact that he coaches the defensive line is really important. That makes him central to USC’s success on a general level. The fact that he was Aaron Donald’s position coach puts Henderson in a position to be an elite recruiter in future cycles. USC really needs him to stick around for a few years.
On the other staff position, Tim and I had different answers. You can see which answers we came up with in the segment, which occurs midway through our two-hour show.
