The Lions are bringing back WR Trinity Benson from the Denver Broncos practice squad

In need of some depth at wide receiver, the Detroit Lions are turning to a familiar name. Per several sources, the Lions are signing wide receiver Trinity Benson to the active roster from the Denver Broncos’ practice squad.

Benson returns to Detroit after being waived over the summer. He had been with Denver on the practice squad for several weeks.

The fourth-year vet saw his only regular-season action with the Lions in 2021. Benson caught 10 passes on 22 targets in eight games, netting 103 yards. The Lions traded two late-round picks to Denver during the preseason of 2021 for Benson and another late-round pick.

Because he’s signed off the practice squad of another team, Benson must remain on the Lions’ active 53-man roster for a minimum of three weeks. The Lions have ongoing injury issues at wide receiver with DJ Chark on IR and Josh Reynolds missing Week 9 with knee and back issues. Rookie Jameson Williams remains on the NFI list and won’t be ready in the next couple of weeks as well.
