The Houston Texans didn’t make the playoffs this season but as we get ready for what should be a very fun divisional round this weekend they are making news and it’s not for anything good.
Franchise QB Deshaun Watson is far from happy with the team and last weekend there was a report that he would consider sitting out the 2021 season.
Yikes.
That report came a few days after a cryptic tweet by the QB that made it seem like he’s very frustrated with a franchise that has been making bad decisions for a while now – the Dolphins have the No. 3 pick in this year’s draft thanks to the Texans, who have the since-fired Bill O’Brien to thank for that one.
Things got even worse for Houston on Tuesday when Andre Johnson their former star wide receiver, ripped the team in a tweet while defending Watson, saying: “The Texans organization is known for wasting players careers.” Johnson is always very quiet so it was a big surprise to see him come out with such an emotional statement.
Another former Texans wide receiver, DeAndre Hopkins, backed up Johnson’s tweet by staying: “When Dre speak listen.”
Yikes again.
Most of this stems from Texans owner Bob McNair going out on his own last week and hiring former New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio as the team’s new GM, a move that reportedly angered Watson.
The rest of Watson’s frustrations have to stem from this franchise screwing up so many moves and costing a star QB some prime years of his career. That has to be awful for Watson to sit back and watch, even though he did get a huge extension before the start of the 2020 season.
The Texans, meanwhile, have something a number of teams in the NFL don’t have – a stud QB who could be the face of the franchise for many years. Instead of doing right by him and in turn making their franchise a successful one, they are doing many wrong things and wasting way too much time in which they should be winning division titles and playoff games.
Now they are once again the laughingstock of the league and they will continue to be just that until they finally figure out how to be somewhat functional.
They better hurry up and fix that, because their star QB is not happy. At all.
