Matt Charboneau of The Detroit News recently put together a list of the Top 20 players in Michigan State Men’s basketball history. This list is excellently crafted with one noteworthy ranking. Cassius Winston ranks No. 3 on this list. The only two Spartans ahead of Winston are Magic Johnson at No. 1 and Mateen Cleaves at No. 2.
Here is Charboneau’s blurb about Winston’s ranking, per the Detroit News:
“A two-time consensus second-team All-American, Winston became the Big Ten’s all-time assists leader as a senior, surpassing Mateen Cleaves. The Big Ten Player of the Year as a junior, Winston was part of three straight Big Ten championship teams and led the Spartans to the 2019 Final Four. A career 43-percent shooter from 3-point range, Winston ranks fifth in program history with 259 made triples.”

On this list, Winston ranks ahead of Scott Skiles, Steve Smith, Shawn Respert, Greg Kelser, and Draymond Green. Winston boasts the accolades, breaking the Big Ten All-Time Assist Record this season previously held by former-Spartan Mateen Cleaves. Winston deserves this No. 3 spot, no questions asked.
