Jason Garrett and the Dallas Cowboys host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon on what will be another circus atmosphere for a franchise that has grown used to playing games under a big tent.
Jerry Jones, who has seen his teams win just three playoff games since 1997, will once again be sitting in his suite, being emotional after big plays and holding impromptu press conferences outside the locker room after the game.
And by Sunday night this team could be in full chaos mode if they are to drop a fourth straight game. If people called for Jason Garrett’s after last week’s loss to the Bears, a loss to the Rams, who are coming off a good win over the Seahawks and fighting for their playoffs lives, will only make complaints get that much more vocal in Dallas.
Sure, the Cowboys are still in first place in the NFC East even though they are 6-7 but another loss would just be an embarrassing blow to their psyche.
Garrett didn’t do much this week to help himself out. On Thursday it was reported that he tried to inspire his guys by showing them highlights of when they did something good, which included some highlights from last year. That seems like a sad video session.
And that did’t make fans feel too confident.
Another sad thing happened when Rams star running back Todd Gurley explained why he’s jealous of the Cowboys, because at least they’re in the playoffs right now. Nothing like pity from others to make yourself feel worse about yourself, Cowboys. Ouch.
Jones, as we all know, is the reason why this franchise is such a circus. His press conferences and radio appearances only dump lighter fluid on to the raging fires that often encompass the Cowboys. Remember a few weeks ago when he said that he felt Jason Garrett would be coaching in the NFL next year? Yeah, that stuff doesn’t help, Jerry.
Sunday’s game against the Rams will get plenty of attention. There’s absolutely zero chance that this game slides under the RedZone radar like any Titans game seemingly does.
The Cowboys are a huge show in the NFL and it often has a terrible ending for its fans. The season will go on no matter what happens on Sunday, but boy oh boy will things become a lot more crazy if they lose again.
Buckle up, Cowboys fans.
Thursday’s biggest winner: Tom Brady.
The 42-year-old Patriots QB had a little fun while watching the Jets-Ravens game as he challenged the great Lamar Jackson to a race in the 40-yard dash – with just one funny catch.
