The Dallas Cowboys have been taking a lot of heat lately, as their three-game losing streak has made many people call for Jason Garrett’s job.
But what happened before the start of Sunday’s game was just incredible and something I’ve never seen.
The Cowboys won the coin toss and then Dak Prescott said they would kick. The ref tried to get Prescott to say that the Cowboys were choosing to defer to the second half but Prescott again said they’d kick. Because he didn’t say the word defer, the Rams now get to choose if they will kick or receive in the second half.
My guess is they’ll elect to receive, meaning they’ll get the ball to start the game and the second half.
Cowboys won the toss, opted to "kick" and not "defer," and now will kick off both halves

Wow. That is just incredible.
Twitter ripped the Cowboys for it:
The Cowboys could not properly handle telling the referees they wanted to "defer" to start the game and as a result the Rams will get the ball to start the first half AND the second half.
Jason Garrett, everyone…

Dysfunctional teams do dysfunctional things: Cowboys somehow screwed up the choice to defer and will kick to start each half of this game.

So Cowboys win the toss;
Cowboys choose to kick…
So Rams will get the ball in both halves first.
Can’t make it up.— John Kincade (@JohnKincade) December 15, 2019
The #Cowboys told the refs they wanted to "kick" instead of "defer" at the coin toss. That means they kick off…twice to start both halves.
SMART!

This “defer rule” seems stupid, but it’s also hilarious it happened to the Cowboys 😂 https://t.co/9hNNqNKeuC

The FOX broadcast just said the Dallas Cowboys chose to kick off instead of defer after winning the coin toss.
That means Rams will get the ball to start both halves.
Not sure I've ever heard of that happening.

Cowboys during the coin toss:
Cowboys: we want to kick
Ref: are you sure you don’t want to defer?
Cowboys: no we want to kick pic.twitter.com/stUrZKyOIa— Skip (@BaylessComments) December 15, 2019
The cowboys suck so bad. They won the coin flip but instead of saying “we defer” they said “we gonna kick” which then gives the choice to the opposing team and now The Rams get the ball to start off the game and after the half. Mind boggling stupidity.

Wow. #Cowboys botch coin flip by not saying "defer." Rams will get ball to start both halves per TV broadcast.
