The Commanders just pulled off a puzzling trade for Carson Wentz and NFL fans had jokes

This is such a weird trade

The Washington Commanders have desperately needed a quarterback since, well, forever. Or, at the very least, since the height of the Robert Griffin III era.

They thought they had one in Kirk Cousins. That didn’t work out. They thought they might’ve had another in Alex Smith. He got injured. They thought maybe Ryan Fitzpatrick could be the guy. He also got injured. The guy they landed on in Taylor Heineke just wasn’t the answer.

And now, here we are. In the Carson Wentz era.

The Commanders just reportedly traded a “package of picks” to the Colts for Wentz, including a couple of third-rounders, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

They’re also taking on his full contract from the Colts and paying him $28 million next season.

And they made this move after the Colts were reportedly ready to cut him if there wasn’t a trade available to be made — which it didn’t seem like there was.

But, clearly, the Commanders were interested. They made it happen. But, still, NFL fans are kind of lost on this one. If Wentz was going to be cut and you could’ve gotten him in free agency, why would you trade future assets for him?

That’s a great question that no one really has an answer to. There were plenty of jokes, though.
