The Colts are hiring ex-Lions OC Jim Bob Cooter to run their offense

Cooter was the Lions offensive coordinator from 2016-2018

The Indianapolis Colts wanted to hire current Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as their head coach. Johnson wasn’t interested in leaving the Lions, so Colts owner Jim Irsay looked elsewhere, hiring Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen instead.

There will still be some Lions flavor in Indianapolis, however. Former Lions OC Jim Bob Cooter will be the new offensive coordinator under Steichen.

Cooter, now 38, was the Lions offensive coordinator from 2016-2018 under head coach Jim Caldwell. He also served as the QB coach in Detroit for two seasons. Most recently, Cooter was the passing game coordinator of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
