The Clippers, not the Lakers, are reportedly the favorites to land Chris Paul

The dream the Lakers (and supposedly LeBron James) have had of landing Chris Paul is reportedly in jeopardy.

The Phoenix Suns are in the process of finalizing a trade that will land them three-time All-Star guard Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards. This trade may not result in an NBA championship or even a finals appearance for them, but it will make the race for Western Conference supremacy more interesting.

Chris Paul, who has been their starting point guard for the last three seasons, is involved in the trade, and the original thinking was the Wizards would waive him, paving the way for him to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

But now there is an increasing belief the Los Angeles Clippers will end up with the 38-year-old future Hall of Famer. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that Paul could be re-routed to them in the Beal deal.

If not, Windhorst said the Clippers would be the favorites to land Paul via free agency if he is waived or stretched by his next team.

If Paul ends up with the Clippers, the Lakers will have to go back to the drawing board if they still want to chase their dream of acquiring a third star.
