The bye week comes at an opportune time for Kentucky football

Kentucky football benefits from a bye this week after upsetting Ole Miss on Saturday.

The last three weeks have been big for the Kentucky Wildcats football team. They came within a few plays of knocking off the Georgia Bulldogs and lost by one point. They blew out Ohio in their next game, then upset Ole Miss in their most recent outing.

After the victory over the Rebels, Kentucky enters their first bye week of the season, after which they’ll play the Vanderbilt Commodores in Lexington. The week off comes at a good time.

Two of their last three games were against top five teams, and they can use a break after such a big win. That helps alleviate the chances of a let-down as well.

More importantly, the bye gives Kentucky a chance to get healthy. Running back Chip Trayanum is still trying to see his first action of the year, and cornerback Maxwell Hairston is dealing with a shoulder injury. There are others dealing with minor aches and pains as well that can take extra time to recover.

The rest of the season promises to be difficult for Kentucky. They still have some games against top teams to play. They have to feel pretty good about where they stand, but getting healthy would make them feel even better. This week’s bye helps a lot on that regard.
