The Buccaneers announced the return of their creamsicle throwbacks for 2023 and fans were hype

This is what the people have been waiting for.

Nothing says bad football quite like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ throwback jersey.

For almost two decades, from the team’s inception in 1976 through the 1994 season, the Bucs rocked the orange-colored duds with ‘Bucco Bruce’ on the helmet. And they had all of three winning seasons and one playoff win in that time, which included the winless 0-14 debut season.

In total, their record in the era of the creamsicles was 87-204-1. Not great.

Still, there’s no denying it was a pretty good looking jersey and unlike anything we’ve seen since. Plenty of nostalgia still exists around them. Which is why fans were absolutely ecstatic to hear on Monday that the jerseys would be returning in 2023 for Throwback Games.

In their announcement, the Bucs said they wanted to bring the jerseys back for 2022 but had to wait a year due to the supply chain. Either way, the news was mostly met with excitement, as it’ll be their first time wearing them since they originally held a series of Throwback Games from 2009-2012.

For fans, the biggest regret about the timing is that it didn’t come before Tom Brady’s retirement. But it makes sense. If the Bucs are about to start losing again, they do it better in these jerseys than any other.
