The Boston Celtics have a key advantage that might decide their series with the Brooklyn Nets

And no, Ben Simmons won’t be enough to counter it alone.

When the Boston Celtics take on the Brooklyn Nets this Sunday, the best team defense in the NBA in the second half of the 2021-22 regular season will face off against two of the greatest offensive players in the history of the game. The Nets have a championship pedigree, and the Celtics depth, but what might end up being the decisive factor in this series?

If anything beyond offensive firepower wins the day in this series, it will be defense. While Brooklyn managed to find another gear in that department last postseason, this time around they are decidedly not built well for that end of the court — even if injured forward Ben Simmons can get back on the court in time for it to matter.

On the most recent episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast, hosts Adam Kaufman and Evan Valenti spoke with the Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn to talk about what could shift the series either way.
