Oklahoma took care of business on the road in Lubbock, Texas.
The Sooners fell behind 7-0 on the first drive of the game, then the rout was on.
Oklahoma rattled off 42 unanswered points and scored 48 in the first half against Texas Tech. It was a complete performance from all three phases of the game as the Sooners would go on to beat the Red Raiders 62-28.
Spencer Rattler had a big day, going 21 for 30 for 288 passing yards and two touchdowns. It was his second-straight turnover free football game.
The return of Rhamondre Stevenson and Ronnie Perkins would be welcomed, too. Stevenson had three first-half rushing touchdowns and Perkins’ presence could be felt from the word ‘go’.
Here are the best stats from the Sooners’ big win on the road.
- Texas Tech’s first drive went 75 yards for a touchdown. Texas Tech’s next 6 drives (first quarter and two drives in the second quarter) went for 18 yards with two interceptions, a turnover on downs and three punts. Oklahoma led 42-7.
- Oklahoma earned its 40th win under head coach Lincoln Riley. At 40-8, Riley is one of just seven Sooners head coaches to reach 40 wins. Only Barry Switzer and Bud Wilkinson reached 40 victories at OU in fewer games (Bob Stoops also did it in 48 games).
- The Sooners scored six rushing touchdowns for the first time since 2015, when they rushed for seven TDs vs. Texas Tech. Four different players scored a rushing TD tonight.
- The last time OU scored at least 48 points in a half was in 2008 vs. Nebraska (49 in first half of a 62-28 victory).
- OU has scored at least 28 points in a school-record 58 consecutive games. The next longest streak nationally since at least 1980 is 31 by UCF (2017-19). The next longest active streak is 19 games by Alabama (includes Saturday).
- OU’s 48 points are its most ever in a half against Texas Tech. The Sooners have scored at least 38 points in each of their last 11 games against the Red Raiders. It is tied for the longest streak of 38 points or more against a single opponent in school history (also 11 straight games vs. Kingfisher College from 1908-19 [no game in 1918]).
- Mikey Henderson cored his first career touchdown on a 4-yard rush in the third quarter.
