The Washington Huskies have nowhere to look but inward following a 21-18 loss to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Piscataway, New Jersey, on Friday. Coach Jedd Fisch’s team succumbed to poor game management, disappointing penalties, and missed opportunities in a game that it could have won handily.
Quarterback Will Rogers threw for 306 yards and 2 touchdowns, completing 72 percent of his passes in the loss as the Huskies gained 521 yards of offense while holding Rutgers to 299 on the night.
Rogers had a strong connection with wide receiver Denzel Boston, who hauled in 6 passes for 125 yards and both scores, including a 51-yard catch and run touchdown in the third quarter.
Running back Jonah Coleman showed off just how comfortable he is on the road and put together one of the best games of his career. Although he was barely utilized near the goal line, he took 16 carries for 143 yards for an average of 9.3 yards per rush.
With the Michigan Wolverines coming to town for a rematch of January’s national championship, the Huskies have a lot to clean up before October 5.
