For the second straight week, the Washington Huskies did what they should against an inferior opponent. Coach Jedd Fisch’s team displayed a crisp passing attack led by Mississippi State transfer Will Rogers, as the fifth-year senior threw for 261 yards and 4 touchdowns in the 30-9 victory.
Rogers distributed the ball to his entire receiving corps, heavily utilizing California transfer Jeremiah Hunter, who had 5 catches for a team-high 72 yards and a touchdown.
Sophomore Denzel Boston reeled in a modest 3 catches for 32 yards, but two of those catches went for scores, while true freshman tight end Decker DeGraaf found the end zone for a second straight week on a 41-yard perfectly thrown ball from Rogers.
Defensively, Steve Belichick’s group showed plenty of improvement from what was an impressive performance in Week One. Linebacker Bryun Parham forced the team’s first turnover of the season, stripping quarterback Cole Snyder on a designed run, and the fumble was recovered by safety Cameron Broussard.
Washington’s pass rush put plenty of pressure on Snyder throughout the afternoon, sacking him 7 times. 2.5 of those came from edge rusher Zach Durfee in the second start of his Husky career, while there was also a significant push from the interior with defensive tackles Elinneus Davis and Sebastian Valdez both recording a sack. Jayvon Parker also recorded 1/2 sack, combining with Durfee on a takedown.
