The Washington Huskies’ first season in the Big Ten and under coach Jedd Fisch didn’t quite go as planned. Coming off a 2023 campaign where they played in the national championship, Washington finished below .500 at 6-7 after a 35-34 loss to Louisville in the Sun Bowl, but they should come out of the year with plenty of positives.
Fisch has his quarterback of the future in dynamic freshman Demond Williams Jr., who shined whenever he took the field during his first year on campus. He’ll have one of the nation’s top running backs by his side in Jonah Coleman, who announced his return for his senior year after going over 1,000 yards in 2024, and a top wide receiver in Denzel Boston, who finished his breakout season with 63 catches for 894 yards and 9 touchdowns.
Defensively, the Huskies will have some big shoes to fill. Washington will see the departure of linebackers Carson Bruener and Alphonzo Tuputala, who paced the team in tackles with 104 and 81 respectively. The seniors played crucial roles in defensive coordinator Steve Belichick’s scheme, and Bruener joined Iowa’s Jay Higgins as one of just two Big Ten players with over 100 tackles and 3 interceptions in the 2024 season.
In 2025, Fisch’s New Year’s resolution has to be to find a way to win away from Husky Stadium. The Huskies continued the nation’s second-longest home winning streak, running it to 20 straight games after going 6-0 at the Greatest Setting in College Football.
However, the Huskies went 0-7 away from home, with an 0-5 record on the road and 2 losses at neutral sites. Heading into 2025, Fisch’s team has plenty of room to grow and has some promising cornerstones in place.
