The Athletic keeps Duke outside the top 50 in its college football rankings

The Athletic updated its college football power rankings on Monday, and the Blue Devils still can’t crack the top 50.

The Athletic’s Chris Vannini updated his college football rankings on Monday, and the Blue Devils (predictably) didn’t really move after their bye week.

Vannini dropped Duke one spot to 52nd, more than a dozen spots lower than the Blue Devils’ spot in the USA TODAY Sports re-rank.

The undefeated Army Black Knights jumped over Duke to 50th after their 44-10 victory over UAB. Three other ACC schools (California, Virginia, and Boston College) occupy four of the spots immediately above the Blue Devils despite all of them having multiple losses already in 2024.

Miami (sixth) and the Clemson Tigers (ninth) continue to run away with the top of the conference, but the Blue Devils are still among Vannini’s top 10 ACC programs. The North Carolina Tar Heels, after a fourth consecutive loss, tumbled down to 71st.

The Florida State Seminoles, Duke’s upcoming opponent on Friday night, sit 88th after winning just one of their first six games.
