It is no secret that Florida Gators quarterback Kyle Trask is the talk of the town so far this season as he continues on a record-breaking pace despite playing in a COVID-altered season. While he nearly drifted out of the national radar when UF sat out for two weeks due to a coronavirus outbreak, the redshirt senior has charged up to the top of the Heisman Trophy watch lists of pretty much the entire sports media.
One such publication that provided a bullish take on Trask’s Heisman chances was The Athletic, which published its staff straw poll for prospective trophy candidates last Monday. Here is what staff writer Matt Fortuna had to say about the Gators’ gunslinger.
Trask is the leader in this week’s poll, continuing an ascent that saw him climb all the way from No. 12 three weeks ago to the top spot now, having amassed 103 total voting points and 26 of a possible 44 first-place votes. (Mac) Jones is No. 2 for the fifth consecutive week — every week of this poll — with 67 points and 11 first-place votes.
Here is a look at the full straw poll results from The Athletic.
