Since entering the transfer portal, Washington Huskies cornerback Thaddeus Dixon has taken his teammate Jonah Coleman’s approach to cryptic posts on social media.
“You’ve got to keep the people on their toes,” the star running back said during a press conference in November.
While Dixon has made it clear that his preference is to play his final season at Washington, he chose to step into the transfer portal to explore all his options with the expected arrival of 247Sports’ top-ranked transfer cornerback Tacario Davis, and on Monday night, the All-Big Ten honorable mention revealed his possible destinations.
Alongside a return to Washington, Dixon, who On3 ranked as the No. 1 cornerback in the portal just ahead of Davis, listed Michigan, Ole Miss, North Carolina, and Tennessee as his other potential landing spots.
If Dixon were to leave Washington familiarity with Steve Belichick’s defensive scheme could make coach Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels his preferred destination, where he’d also reunite with his former teammate, linebacker Khmori House.
However, if he were to decide to return to Washington for his final season of eligibility, which comes thanks to the NCAA’s blanket ruling to give junior college players an extra year, he could be a critical part of Jedd Fisch’s plans to form one of the Big Ten’s best secondaries.
Fisch’s coaching staff seems to have plans to move him to the nickelback role with the lengthy 6-foot-3 Ephesians Prysock and 6-foot-4 Davis expected to man the outside. But a return to Washington might be in his best interests, as the program has seen plenty of its high-caliber defensive backs find success at the position in college and at the NFL level.
From Elijah Molden during his time on Montlake, to Trent McDuffie and Kyler Gordon who move both inside and outside for their respective pro teams, Dixon would have an opportunity to improve his draft stock by playing the position. New defensive coordinator Ryan Walters also has plenty of experience with helping players find success in the nickel, most notably with Seattle Seahawks star and former top-five overall draft pick Devon Witherspoon, who spent some time on the inside at Illinois and won the 2022 Jim Thorpe Award.
