The North Carolina Tar Heels will be without a key piece to the offense on Saturday as they get set to take on South Carolina in the season opener.
After filing an appeal against the NCAA’s ruling of him being ineligible, Tez Walker will NOT play against South Carolina. Walker is still awaiting the appeal which did not come in time for him to suit up.
However, a decision should be coming very soon and ESPN’s Pete Thamel believes it will be next week. Listen to what Thamel had to say on the Walker situation during his appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay Saturday morning:
Here’s our @CollegeGameDay report on UNC stat WR Tez Walker, who will not play today against South Carolina as he awaits NCA eligibility ruling. Walker’s second waiver request, which was filed last week, was denied Thursday. A second appeal will be heard this week. pic.twitter.com/3KcGgptfJf

The whole process has really shed a negative light on the NCAA, which appears to have taken its sweet time on this appeal. Walker was hoping to be cleared in time to play in his hometown of Charlotte in front of his Grandmother for the first time.
That won’t happen unfortunately and now the focus for Walker and the Tar Heels shifts to getting him eligible for as many games as possible. But they will still have to wait on the NCAA.
