Texas vs Oklahoma: 5 Thoughts On The Sooners 53-45 Win Over The Longhorns

5 thoughts and an instant reaction on the Oklahoma 53-45 win over Texas.

2. What it means for Texas

This was brutal.

The Longhorns still have issues on defense, a Cameron Dicker overtire field goal attempt was blocked, and Sam Ehlinger ran out of magic late. There’s still time to potentially pull this season out of the doldrums, but they need to win out and get a whole lot of help the rest of the way.

Unfortunately, it took a miracle just to get that one Big 12 win so far over Texas Tech, and now Texas has a run of Baylor, at Oklahoma State, and West Virginia to follow with Iowa State and at Kansas State at the very end.

It’s possible to get hot and win out – the talent is there – but what about the first three Big 12 games would lead you to believe that there won’t be at least two more losses along the way?

It’s Year Four under Tom Herman and now he’s 27-17 at the school. He’s not likely going to win a Big 12 title this year, he’s certainly not going to get the program to the College Football Playoff, much less win the national title, and his Longhorns lost to Oklahoma.

The team has two weeks off to rest up for Baylor. It needs the time.
