While we await word from the Big 12 Conference and commissioner Bob Bowlsby on the non-conference schedule, the Texas UIL has made a decision on high school football. For most of the Big 12 and conferences around the country, the state of Texas is a hot spot for talent. Schools such as Alabama and Ohio State have done a good job in creating a pipeline in the Lone Star State.
Much like some college football players need the 2020 season to help their draft stock heading into the 2021 NFL Draft, high school players are in the same boat. Not all high school football players are at the caliber of a Tommy Brockermeyer or Ja’Tavian Sanders. Those players need the extra season of tape and discussions with schools to earn their scholarship offers. The state of California has already postponed their season but it doesn’t appear that Texas will follow suit.
The Texas UIL has announced that they will plan on starting the season on time for some. Classes 1A-4A are set to start practice on August 3rd while 5A-6A are starting September 7th.

The lower level high schools could have their season start date pushed back as well but right now they are on schedule for a late August kick off. If high schools are preparing to have a football season at this point, it is hard to imagine that the college level won’t.
Bob Bowlsby and the Big 12 Conference should have their finalized ruling in the next week as the month of July comes to a close.
