Listed at 6-1, 190 pounds, Thompson has played cornerback and wide receiver during his one season on varsity. With Valai being his main recruiting, the Longhorns are looking to play the four-star on defense.
Thompson had 37 tackles in 2019, one of which was for a loss. In pass coverage, the sophomore had eight pass breakups and two interceptions. Offensively, he had 29 receptions for 600 yards and five touchdowns.
Going into his junior year, Saint Louis University High School only has four games on its schedule. Thompson will begin his season on Oct. 2 against Life for Life Academy Charter.
On film, Thompson consistently shows his good hands on defense thanks to playing wide receiver. Not only getting interceptions but being able to locate the ball in the air and knock it down. With a verified vertical of 38 inches, Thompson can get to nearly any ball.
When it comes to tackling, he loves to lay devasting hits on receivers. Flying around the field at safety when not locking somebody down one-on-one, Thomspon is not afraid to make his presence known.
If Thompson were to commit, he would be the first of many defensive backs Texas is targeting in the 2022 class. Valai is pushing hard for five-star cornerback Domani Jackson out of California plus five-star safety Kamari Wilson from Georgia.
With Ewers already locked down, Thompson could be a part of a historic recruiting class in Texas history.
