Texas wide receiver Brenden Schooler will certainly contribute against Texas Tech on Saturday, but he won’t be wearing the same number.
It’s been quite a ride for Schooler, who began his collegiate career at Oregon. He started as a true freshman at the safety position for the Ducks and finished third on the team with 74 tackles. As a sophomore, Schooler moved to wide receiver and excelled on special teams.
After his 2019 campaign limited him to two games due to a foot injury, Schooler chose to enter the transfer portal. He originally committed to Arizona, but due to the Pac-12 postponing fall football, Schooler changed course and chose to finish his collegiate career at Texas.
Less than two weeks after joining the program, Schooler contributed immediately in Texas’ dominant win over UTEP on Sept. 12. He hauled in two receptions for 65 yards and one touchdown.
He wore the No. 81 jersey throughout the season opener. According to the Texas Sports official website, it appears that Schooler will be sporting the No. 14 moving forward.
Schooler is expected to be the primary backup to Jake Smith in the slot against the Red Raiders. Alongside walk-on Kai Money, the duo will likely receive significant playing time as Smith is still dealing with a hamstring strain.
