Texas Rangers at San Diego Padres odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Texas Rangers at San Diego Padres sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets for August 19, 2020.

The Texas Rangers (10-12) and San Diego Padres (13-12) meet Wednesday in the third edition of a four-game series. First pitch is 9:10 p.m. ET at Petco Park. We analyze Wednesday’s Rangers-Padres MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Series so far: Padres SS Fernando Tatis Jr. drew the Rangers’ ire for … hitting a grand slam when his team happened to be winning during a Monday blowout. The Padres won 14-4 Monday and 6-4 Tuesday.

Arguably baseball’s hottest hitter will get a tough opposing pitcher in an impressive duel Wednesday.

Rangers at Padres: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Lance Lynn at RHP Chris Paddack

Lynn in 2020: 3-0, 1.11 ERA, 0.74 WHIP, 36 K, 12 BB in 32 1/3 IP

  • That .141 BABIP is ripe for a correction, but Lynn’s strikeout and walk skills remain in line with some of his better seasons.
  • The righty boasts a1.50 ERA in two starts at Petco Park, but he hasn’t pitched there since 2017, and those numbers may not fully apply to 2020, given the new universal designated hitter even in NL parks.

Paddack in 2020: 2-2, 4.91 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 22 K, 4 BB in 25 2/3 IP

  • Paddack has allowed a whopping seven homers in that window (2.45 HR/9).
  • Luckily, he holds a 3.06 ERA in 14 career home starts, which exactly matches his 2020 Petco Park ERA in 17 2/3 IP.

Prediction

Padres 4, Rangers 2

Moneyline (ML)

  • Rangers (+115)
  • Padres (-129)

Trusting Texas away from Arlington doesn’t typically work out, and the Padres are 6-4 at home. I’ll lean Padres in this category but target my bets in the other slots to come.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

  • Rangers +1.5 (-200)
  • Padres -1.5 (+165)

The books expect this one to be tight, as they still believe Paddack is better than his surface numbers. Still, I prefer the Padres at home, especially with the way Tatis and Myers have been taking cuts. This is the way to make a more significant profit on the home favorites.

BET PADRES -1.5 (+165).

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Padres’ run line would yield a profit of $16.50 if they win by two or more runs.

Over/Under (O/U)

  • Over 7.5 (-110)
  • Under 7.5 (-110)

The strong pitching matchup makes me want to avoid nailing down a total for this one. PASS.
