Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma State: Key offensive players

The Texas Longhorns have a tough road ahead of them to make a run at a Big 12 Championship berth. Three key players on offense in the upset.

Jake Smith, Wide Receiver

During the offseason, there was plenty of hype surrounding Jake Smith. He was going to be the next slot receiver to take over. Much like Devin Duvernay and Lil’Jordan Humphrey before him. A hamstring injury before the opener slowed down the hype train for Smith. Since coming back he played in the TCU game, dropped a key pass on third down. Missed Oklahoma’s game due to that hamstring and played minimally against Baylor.

In Smith’s two games this year, he has seven receptions for 63 yards and one touchdown. The offense will need to find a way to get him the ball in the passing game. Ehlinger excels in the short to intermediate passing game and that is where they can get the ball to Smith. He is a quick and shifty receiver, so let him work in space if that hamstring isn’t limiting him. Most of the damage in the passing game has been from Joshua Moore, but one man can’t beat a top ranked team alone.
