Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma State: Key offensive players

The Texas Longhorns have a tough road ahead of them to make a run at a Big 12 Championship berth. Three key players on offense in the upset.

Sam Ehlinger, Quarterback

The quarterback is going to need to be on his “A” game on Saturday. He will be facing one of the top defenses in the country. Against Iowa State, the Cowboys held Brock Purdy to 162 yards passing at a clip of 4.8 yards per attempt. Purdy threw the ball 34 times but found some success on the ground with 65 yards rushing and a touchdown.

There would be some hope to limit Sam Ehlinger’s runs given how banged up he has been the last few games. He is running far too often, but the Longhorns likely will need him to run in this game. When asked to throw, Ehlinger needs to be efficient with his decision making. If it isn’t there, let him attack this defense with his legs. Hopefully, that will open things on offense. Running the ball with the backs will be difficult due to the likelihood OSU will load the box. With that, they will force Ehlinger to throw the ball to beat them.
