Texas Longhorns path to the Big 12 Championship Game using FPI

The Longhorns are currently sitting in the thick of the title game race. So how does Texas make it to the dance?

A week from Saturday the Texas Longhorns begin their final stretch of the 2020 college football season.

There are five teams who have a realistic shot at a Big 12 Championship game berth. Oklahoma State Cowboys, Iowa State Cyclones, Kansas State, Oklahoma Sooners and your Texas Longhorns.

  • Iowa State 5-2 (5-1)
  • Oklahoma State 5-1 (4-1)
  • Oklahoma 5-2 (4-2)
  • Texas 5-2 (4-2)
  • Kansas State 4-3 (4-2)

If the season ended today, Iowa State and Oklahoma State would be heading to Arlington, Texas to play in the title game at AT&T Stadium. Luckily for Longhorns fans, there are still games to be played and against two of the teams in the top five of the standings. Texas is a half game back of the No. 2 slot and a spot in the Big 12 Championship. Not where many thought the Horns would be after starting 1-2 in conference play. So how does Texas get into the game?

We used ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) to layout the rest of the season.
