The Texas Longhorns lost one of the highest graded recruits in the history of college football on Wednesday night.
Five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers is the No. 1 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class according to 247Sports. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect from Southlake Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas, originally committed to the Longhorns in August.
Ewers announced via Twitter that he would be opening his recruitment on Wednesday. Shortly after, news began circulating across various platforms that Ohio State has now become the front-runner to land this generational talent.
It certainly appeared at an unfortunate time for Texas. Head coach Tom Herman’s future in Austin already looked bleak with the undisciplined play and back-to-back losses to unranked conference opponents. After the Ewers announcement, Herman’s seat is now scorching hot.
Texas already lost four-star athlete Billy Bowman from the 2021 recruiting class and more are expected to follow. The Longhorns recruiting cycle is currently in a downwards spiral that seemingly gets worse by the day.
Emotions understandably ran rampant on Twitter following the Ewers announcement. Take a look at a few of the top reactions on the next page.
