Texas Football Recruiting: Where does the 2021 defensive class sit now?

The defensive recruiting has been good but there is still room to work. Here is your latest update on the 2021 defensive recruiting class:

Safety

Commits: J.D. Coffey

Remaining targets: Andrew Mukuba

Analysis: J.D. Coffey committed at the same time as Ishmael Ibraheem, pairing the two blue-chip defensive backs together. Coffey is the No. 7 safety on the 247Sports composite and the top in the state of Texas.

Coffey is seen almost like a center fielder, being able to roam all around the field and make plays. However, a senior season will be needed in order for his game to improve. A year under the wing of a couple of Texas’ starters and Coffey will instantly become a top player in the defense.

Texas seems comfortable with just taking Coffey in their 2021 class, Andrew Mukuba is still a target they are going after. An Austin native, Clemson is the other team in the race for the four-star safety.

247Sports has compared him to current Longhorn safety Chris Brown. Valai is still working on Mukuba but has to fend off the current No. 1 team in the country. It seems as if this recruitment will go into the fall, with Mukumba wanting to take official visits.
