Texas Football Recruiting: Where does the 2021 defensive class sit now?

The defensive recruiting has been good but there is still room to work. Here is your latest update on the 2021 defensive recruiting class:

Linebacker

Commits: Morice Blackwell (OLB)

Remaining targets: Terrance Cooks (OLB)

Analysis: Texas only has one linebacking commit for now in Morice Blackwell. The No. 21 overall outside linebacker and a four-star on the 247Sports composite, Blackwell is another DFW product for Tom Herman.

Weighing a little light for a linebacker, Blackwell will need to gain weight once he gets on campus. Once he does, Blackwell’s pursuit and ball-hawking ability will make him a great stud in this defense.

Terrance Cooks is the only other linebacker the Longhorns are targeting. A three-star recruit, arch-rivals Oklahoma and Texas A&M are also going after the Shadow Creek High School product. Texas currently leads the way for Cooks on the 247Sports Crystal Ball.

Playing for a big-time 5A-DI team in the state of Texas will help Cooks translate his game in college. Cooks was selected to District 10-5A D-I second-team last season at linebacker. It will be a recruiting battle the Longhorns must win.
