Texas Football Recruiting: Three reasons the 2021 class was a disaster

Texas’ 2021 recruiting class was not one Longhorn fans are used to seeing. Here are three reasons it turned out to be such a disaster.

Witnessing Tommy and James Brockermeyer commit to Alabama instead of Texas is one of the core reasons for such a disappointing 2021 class.

Tommy, a five-star offensive tackle and the No. 5 overall prospect on the 247Sports composite, and James, the No. 1 center, are part of a lifelong Longhorn family. Their father Blake played offensive tackle in Austin and brother Luke is a current linebacker. Tom Herman had one job — land the legacy brothers to sure up the future of the offensive line.

When the Crimson Tide came calling, it was easy to sell the brothers on the winning tradition in Tuscaloosa, something they have cited as the main reason for their decision. James and Tommy pulled the trigger in mid-July and Herman watched two of the best in-state recruits leave for Alabama.

The Brockermeyer brothers will still have the opportunity to play at Darrel K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium one time during their college careers. Alabama will travel to Texas in 2022 for the first leg of a home and home series. Seeing them in crimson instead of burnt orange will leave plenty of Texas fans wondering what if.
