Texas Football Recruiting: Evaluating remaining 2022 wide receiver targets

Wide receiver recruiting is exciting to think about for Texas fans right now. Here are the remaining targets at the position.

Tetairoa McMillian/C.J. Williams

Five-star quarterback commit Maalik Murphy is going to try to work his roots in California to bring at least one of the top receivers to Austin. C.J. Williams was a priority even before Murphy committed, but five-star Tetairoa McMillian is someone Murphy has mentioned by name that he is working on.

Williams comes out of the elite Santa Ana program Mater Dei. He is a bigger receiver at 6-2, 193-pounds and has all of the skills you would want out of your star wide receiver. The only knock on Williams is the lack of elite-level speed that Steve Sarkisian so desperately desires. Alabama, Ohio State, and Notre Dame are other national brands pushing for Williams, alongside local USC.

As for McMillian, he is a three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and volleyball. Current Dallas Cowboys and notorious Texas Longhorns shredder CeeDee Lamb has been compared to McMillian, but the added element of 50/50 jump balls in the end zone is added to his game. It is not hard to see why McMillian will compete for the No. 1 WR spot in the 2022 class.

If Texas found a way to land either guy, it would be a monumental haul to the wide receiver room. Longhorn fans may have flashbacks with the last California-based receiver in town but Sarkisian would be able to keep McMillian and Williams satisfied in the Lone Star State.
