Texas Baseball: Horns win game two of BYU series

The Texas Longhorns baseball team followed up their game one defeat over BYU by stealing game two and taking the series to 2-0.

After defeating BYU in game one of the three game series on Wednesday, the Longhorns also stole game two from the Cougars on Thursday by a score of 12-6.

The game started slow as the Longhorns gave up four runs in the first inning, but fortunately were able to follow up with two runs of their own in the first inning and four runs in the second inning.

Bats were spread around as Texas scored at least one run in six of their eight innings at bat and never lost the lead after the second inning. BYU didn’t get back on the board until scoring one in the fourth and not again until the ninth.

Longhorns pitcher Justin Eckhart started the game but was pulled after 45 pitches in two innings, for what was not a good start for his season giving up four runs that included one home run.

The bats appeared to have woken up after a horrendous showing at the plate in the State Farm College Baseball Showdown last weekend. Texas had nine different players get a hit against BYU on Thursday. Zach Zubia was three for four at the plate.

Texas will look to sweep the series with the Cougars tomorrow at 6:30 pm. CST. Game three will be televised on Longhorn Network.
