Texas A&M’s 2025 recruiting class is the first complete cycle for head coach Mike Elko heading into his second season with the program. On Wednesday, Elko and his staff signed 24 of 25 commitments in the class, including 5-star offensive tackle Lamont Rogers and 5-star WR Jerome Myles.
While the future is bright despite A&M’s 8-4 finish this season, eleven players have entered the transfer portal, including five more players from the Aggies’ historic 2022 recruiting class, which featured one of the best defensive line hauls in program history.
However, redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman’s entry into the portal after three injury-riddled seasons was not a surprise, as the former five-star signal caller needs a change of scenery amid quarterback Marcel Reed taking over as the permanent starter this season.
On Friday, the 19th player out of the 2022 cycle, former four-star offensive lineman Hunter Erb, entered the portal, leaving just eleven players from the historical class on the roster.
Losing talent is never a good thing, but during head coach Jimbo Fisher’s final two seasons in College Station, several class members caused major in-season headaches, including current UTSA cornerback Denver Harris and wide receiver Chris Marshall, who is currently on Boise State’s College Football Playoff-bound roster.
However, defensive lineman Walter Nolen (Ole Miss) and wide receiver Evan Stewart (Oregon) have thrived at their new destinations, as both players are still destined to be high draft picks as soon as the 2025 NFL Draft.
Mike Elko is putting his stamp on the program and bringing in players who fit his culture and bring the work ethic and winning attitude that will eventually help Texas A&M get over the hump and reach the CFP.
